I am allergic to basically everything, and there is no known cure for it. Thankfully this condition didn’t set in until I was in my late teens, so I always have the fond memories of a wild and crazy childhood to reflect upon. The days of running outside, exploring the environment, or getting together with a group of other people are long behind me now. Thanks to this stupid condition, I can barely be around other people, and rarely can I leave my home. A man’s home is his castle, but my home has become a prison. Were it not for a general insurance settlement I would not be able to afford the high tech HVAC system I have, which allows me live outside of the hospital. The HVAC company I work with is specialized, so specialized that I am the only private customer they have. Otherwise, all they do is build and install ventilation systems for hospitals and laboratories. That means the HVAC system I have in place at home now is as good as, if not better than, the A/C systems they have in most hospitals. Whenever there is a service call, the HVAC techs have to put on sterilized bio-suits just to come in and inspect the equipment. This is something they do every single month, because if the ventilation system or the air filters ever stop working, I could literally die within hours. Just in case of an emergency, I have a “panic room” in the basement, that has its own dedicated climate control system.
