My sophomore year of high university I decided to join the debate team. I lived in a section with dreadfully warm summer time hot and cold temperatures and the region where our debate camp was being held was one of the hottest of the states. I was just hoping the dorms had amazing a/cs. I arrived at the week-long camp and checked in at the student center. The a/c in the lobby of the student center was so nice, especially after being crammed into a bus with no air conditioning. After signing in and getting registered in our classes for the week the people I was with and I got our room assignments. Me and our roommate walked back out into the scorching sun and got our bags. After dragging them up more than one flights of stairs to our room the people I was with and I were dripping sweat. We were so excited to turn on the a/c and sit down for a nap. I went over to the temperature control that was on the wall and turned on the cooling system, but nothing happened. We called one of the camp supervisors and she came to look at it. She messed with the air conditioning device that was underneath the window, but to no avail. She told us the Heating and Air Conditioning business was already closed, but she’d call again in the afternoon; Unfortunately for us, she never called the Heating and Air Conditioning service shop again, despite our constant nagging. They gave us a few electric fans, but they were no match for the heat. The most relief the people I was with and I got was eating in the student union every afternoon and getting to enjoy the a/c for a while separate from having class. I hope that no else had to live separate from a cooling plan that week, it was torture.
