I was raised in an affluent town in the northeastern section of the country. My dad was a pilot in addition to made enough money to afford a big beach house with an inground swimming pool in the backyard. My mother stayed at our beach house to raise my brother, sister and I. She handled the budget, paid our bills, in addition to working on various household requirements. Right near the time our little brother was born, she took a careful look at our dad’s life insurance coverage through his company. At that time, many basic policies from work only paid out about $30,000, which easily wasn’t enough to feed a family for all that long. My mother then took the time to calculate how much every one of us would require to get by if something unforeseen were to happen. She called into account our living expenses, mortgage, in addition to rising inflation. My mother insisted that dadi and Mom take out an additional term life policy to cover just him, in addition to the whole life policy for herself. That would cover college educations for us children. My mother had no earthly way of knowing at the time that how this would turn out to be the best financial decision she would ever make. A little less than three years later, our father was operating a routine flight when he called the tower, stating the right engine of the plane had caught on fire. Within mere minutes, he returned to the radio, saying the engine had come off in addition he was caught in a downward spiral. My father could not survive the crash of his plane. While our family went through a terribly difficult time, we were able to stay in our beach house in addition to continue our way of life. My mother spent tons of time adding up the numbers on her calculator in addition to being truly careful with our budget. But every one of us always had the essentials. Every one of us were so fortunate that our mother insisted on getting the extra life insurance policies. With the meager insurance check from our father’s company, every one of us would have been in extreme trouble.
