A couple of years ago, I visited our older brother on the other side of the country. I spent a week with her, & was totally comfortable in his guest study room. Although his lake loft is not equipped with a central cooling system, there was a window air conditioner in our room. Despite outdoor temperatures in the high eighties, the room was perfectly cool. I had a little remote control which allows me to make adjustments separate from even getting out of bed. With a tap of our finger, I could raise or lower temperature, regulate fan speed & even target humidity levels. At the end of the a busy afternoon, I was regularly eager to crawl into bed. I had no trouble sleeping & regularly felt rested in the afternoon. This past winter, I decided to visit our brother for another week. My stay was not as comfortable this time. His loft is outfitted with a forced air oil furnace with a single thermostat. Because of only the only thermostat, every room is heated to the same temperature. The guest study room was regularly slightly overheated, & I’d wake up damp with sweat. Plus, separate from the air conditioner drowning out other sounds, I had a superb deal of trouble sleeping. I heard the wind chime outside our window, the oil furnace kicking on & off, & the dog barking. I even heard our brother snoring in his study room on the other side of the wall. My brother definitely needs to replace his heating plan to zone control. The guest study room is usually empty, & yet she’s paying to heat it all Winter long.
