When our hubby & I obtained our home, the people I was with and I had a absolutely limited budget. The two of us were newly married, struggling to pay off student loans, & not making much of an income. Unwilling to waste money on rent, the people I was with and I found a absolutely small beach house in need of major repairs. Our little beach house was perfect for us. The two of us handled the upgrades on our own, & ensured that the beach house was drastically energy efficient. The two of us installed Energy Star rated windows, added insulation to the walls, ceilings & attic, & put up ceiling fans. Because of our efforts & the minimal square footage, the people I was with and I were able to get by with a small furnace & air conditioner unit. Our bi-weekly energy bills were in high-priced, & the people I was with and I kept the beach house at the ideal temperature all year round. Eight years later, we’d added many children & several dogs to our family. The two of us were horribly cramped & needed to put on an addition. The addition nearly doubled the size of the home. There was no way the existing furnace & air conditioner equipment could handle this greater demand. Rather than sacrifice the space & invest in a complete duct system for the addition, the people I was with and I opted to install a multi-split system. The ductless heat pump incorporates a single outdoor compressor linked to numerous indoor air handlers. The indoor handlers are compact, lightweight & mount on an exterior wall. Despite the streamlined design, the heat pump is powerful enough to hastily heat up or cool down the many rooms. The individual air handlers in each room allow customizable temperature control & avoid heating/cooling empty rooms.
