I can hear the death knell. The grim reaper is on the way. It’s inevitable because nothing lasts forever. This time, death has come for my heating and air conditioning unit. I mean it’s definitely a bit overdue if the truth be told. I’ve had the same gas furnace and air conditioning unit for the last 22 years. Plus, my excellent heating and air conditioning guy warned me this time was coming several years ago. I’m absolutely thankful he did because I was able to start saving for a substitute system. Well, the time is nigh. The central air conditioning is now running nearly consistently. It just can’t keep up with the height of summer. I undoubtedly know this for sure because the utility bill is off the charts. I think the power bill is more than double what it was just two years ago. The other afternoon, as I was mowing the lawn, I kept seeing something out of the corner of my eye. I kept trying to catch the thing that was moving, despite the fact that I couldn’t see it. Then, I sure did see what was moving; it was the heating and air conditioning compressor unit. The thing was not only shaking but, it was absolutely sort of jumping a bit as well. This cannot be a positive sign. I think the final straw may have come that weekend. The cooling system kicked on as well as tripped the breaker at the fuse box. It wasn’t just an easy trip either. There was plenty of arcing. I could even smell the ozone when I went to reset the breaker. So, I made the call this afternoon. I phoned the heating and air conditioning company and had them place the order for the new heating and air conditioning unit I had picked out. It will be installed within the next two weeks. I sure hope my old gas furnace and AC unit can hold out that long.
