When the bunch of us had to evacuate due to flooding I made sure to take all of my pets.
Much to our sister’s dissatisfaction, this included all 12 of my pet tarantulas. She honestly doesn’t prefer our spider pets much but I couldn’t leave them behind to drown. Thankfully my sister was understanding and let me take the tarantulas to her property. She didn’t actually have a shelf for me to put my pets on, like I have at my property, so I had to put their tanks all on the floor in the kitchen area. Shortly after our arrival we all decided to go out to dinner. When the bunch of us got back my sister noticed that the tarantulas were running around in a crazy manner. It was freaking her out, and this is odd behavior. It is exceptionally odd for all 12 of the tarantulas to be doing it at the same time, but it finally occurred to me the cause. It turns out that my sister has underfloor heating in her property. My spiders were way too warm on the heated floors while we were out to dinner. Being cold blooded pets, they get incredibly active when it is super warm. So I moved the spiders off of the heated floors and onto the table. They were able to calm down in a short period of time. I better go out and get a new shelf system for the spiders. I have a feeling that my sister will not be happy with them living on the table for a few days and I don’t want to put them back down on the radiant heated floors either. Hopefully we can get back home soon enough!
