The dormitory at my graduate school has ductless mini splits inside

When I finished undergraduate school, I figured I would never step foot in a dorm room again.

  • My entire four years of college up to that point had been spent in one dorm after another.

Two of those rooms were in shared apartments where we lacked basics like ovens and cooktops. I hated doing all of my cooking with a tiny hot plate and an old toaster oven I bought at the thrift store. Needless to say, thinking about graduate school had me excited at the thought of living on my own in a real apartment for the first time. Since I knew I’d be receiving a stipend, this expectation was within the realm of possibility. Unfortunately, I didn’t read any of the fine print ahead of time and came to find out that I would be living in another dormitory for three years or more. I wasn’t happy, but at least I could only blame myself this time. I had no other choice but to keep an open mind and make the best of the situation. Thankfully, this would become the nicest dorm room of them all, with modern accommodations like chrome appliances and a ductless mini split heating and cooling system. My last dorm room had an old window air conditioner that was leaky, inefficient, and smelled like mold. In the winter season, I had to get by with just a terrible space heater that barely raised the temperature by a few degrees if I was lucky. This ductless mini split was sleek looking and powerful. I had no issues of any kind keeping my new dorm at a comfortable temperature no matter what season I was in.
