When my sister and I went for a hike in the mountains, we didn’t predict it was going to rain. We didn’t pack any rain proofing gear at all. So, when we were about 5 miles up the trail and it started to come down, there was nothing to do but make the miserable journey back towards her truck. The rain started falling in sheets as we made our decent. This wasn’t one of those nice warm summer rains either. This was a winter rain and we were soaked to the bone and far too cold by the time we reached her vehicle. I was so chilly that my teeth were chattering. Once inside, we immediately cranked up the heater to warm up. It seemed like the heater would never get to a warm temperature!. I think it finally did start working just a ways away from home. Once we arrived home we both took toasty, warm showers, turned up the furnace to nearly 90 degrees, and then sprawled out in front of the heater vents. It seemed like we simply could not warm up no matter what. I must have fallen asleep because I woke up about an hour later and I was sweating. I turned the furnace back down and was content that I no longer felt frozen. Next time I go hiking I will definitely bring along a rainproof coat and waterproof pants and boots no matter what the weather forecast is. I’ve never been so freezing cold in my life.
