My mom moved in with me last year.
My mom was having trouble taking care of herself, and I knew she needed to move.
I didn’t want to put my mom in a nursing home, so I asked her to live in my home. At first, she really protested. She didn’t want to be a burden on my family. My mom suffered from a stroke, when she was 61 years old. She is almost completely paralyzed on the right side of her body. She has a hard time performing most of the routine tasks that we take for granted. When my mom moved into my house, I decided to install a sit-in shower tub for my mom. We doubled the size of the guest bathroom, and a plumbing contractor helped us install the sit in shower tub. My mom can easily get in and out of the tub, now. She can fill the tub with water and take a bath, or she can use the shower head. There is a comfortable foam seat inside of the tub, so my mom can sit during her bath or shower. The sit in shower tub combination installation required the help of a plumbing contractor, but a lot of the fees were covered by my mom’s health insurance. Since she is paralyzed, the sit-in shower tub combination is considered a medical necessity. My wife and I only paid a small fee to the installation contractor. The rest of the fees were covered by Medicare. My Mom loves the new tub, and I think she feels safer.
