Turns out, I should not be trusted to go buy a vehicle on my own.
This is kind of what I assumed, but I wanted to put on my big-girl pants and do the adult thing on my own.
I went confidently off to the car dealership and track down a Salesman to help me. I told him right away which car year make and model I was interested in. I rejected his attempts to upsell me a different vehicle and was feeling pretty proud of the excellent bargaining job that I did. I truly thought that I had one of the car buying game, and I was walking with my head held high for quite a while. That is, until the weather turned and summer heat settled into our region of the country. All of a sudden, our daily temperature went from 50 degrees everyday to 90° everyday. This was a time of rapid change in both lifestyle and opinion of my car purchasing decisions. One morning, I climbed into my car and it was too hot to start driving. I turned on the air conditioning system and cranked it up as high as it would go. It was about 5 minutes into the drive when I realize that the car had only gotten hotter since I started driving. I turned the AC on and off a few times, and held my hand up by the air vent. Nothing but sweltering hot air was flowing through the vents. That’s when I realized, I hadn’t used the AC the entire time I had on this vehicle. I purchase the car in cold weather, and I never checked to see that the air conditioner was functional before I left the lot. Spoilers, the AC was broken and I had to renegotiate with my car mechanic to get it working again.
