Last year my husband and I had to deal with a huge pest issue in our home. We had major bee issues! We hired a professional to come in and check that the structural integrity of the house was still intact. However, we soon found out from the exterminator that the bees had infiltrated the heating and cooling ductwork. They may have even had nests in there for all we knew. At that point we needed to make a choice. We either needed to take the chance that when we went to use our HVAC next, there may be dead bugs coming out, or we had to have an HVAC contractor come in and clean the whole system out. Obviously we chose the second option. We didn’t want to have to deal with dead bees, yuck! We found a local HVAC company with a moderate rate and had them come out to do the cleaning. It took a while to do every single duct and vent in the house, but once it was done, I was glad that I wouldn’t have to do anything else for a while! When the weather started to turn cold, and we turned our heating system on for the first time since the whole bee problem, we held our breath. It was perfectly fine. Our heating and cooling system worked great, and there was no smell, no issues at all with it. I really felt like the headache and money I invested in the extra work was worth it at that point when I could turn my heat on and have everything go smoothly from then on.
