I was raised by a woman who taught me that family always came first.
In reality, she was a shining example of that axiom. Her actions toward our extended family did all the teaching I needed. There were also Aunts and Uncles helping each other out which further cemented the idea of family. Now, it’s my turn. There isn’t a lot of money in our family but we make do. My mom’s heating and cooling system is no longer doing the job. She is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The HVAC system is so old and out of date that she is really suffering during the winter months. I simply can’t have that. Instead of replacing the archaic propane heating system, I have proposed she move South and winter with us. She is a very independent woman so it may take a great deal of convincing. However, I know she is sick to death with living in all that cold. The winter where I live gets chilly but nothing a good heat pump heating system can’t handle. I even had our current HVAC modified for my mother’s arrival. We were able to create an independent zone for her living area so she can turn the heat up all she wants during our cool winter. I think she will like knowing she has that independence at least. Regardless, it will sure beat freezing due to a completely inadequate HVAC heating unit. I hate that she has to relocate from her home for a few months. But, I think she will adjust and perhaps we’ll all get even more connected. She taught me family first so now I’m going to deliver on that.
