I have been a major allergy symptom sufferer most of my life. When I was living with my parents, this wasn’t such a horrible thing because they had a superb HEPA filter that actually helped control the amount of dust, dirt, & germs that would roam around in the air… However, when I moved out on my own & got stuck in a junky apartment, the indoor air quality levels were terrible. I wanted to purchase a HEPA filter similar to what my parents had at home! The HEPA filters were on sale at the local HVAC supplier too, so you would think that it would be the best time to buy some. The drawback was, they were all sold out by the time I went to get some! So I opted for some regular portable air purifiers instead. Those air cleaners helped but they just couldn’t do the same task. So I started looking for other options that were available. What I found was a UV light filter. These you could pick up from your local HVAC supplier & they work by affixing to your heating & cooling equipment! From there everything the light touches will eliminate any germs or bacteria that could be floating in the air. The only real issue is you have to check on it often enough to make sure that the bulb has not burned out. If the bulb has burned out, having a UV light filter is not going to work for you. I got a single one of these for myself to try them out & I have noticed that it seems to be improving my indoor air quality levels significantly. I later was able to also get a quality HEPA filter & the two actually working together fixed the terrible indoor air quality levels.
