I decided to convert my whole home to a ductless system. I am sick of ductwork. Ductwork has caused me nothing but problems. The ductwork is always really dirty. Every few years you are supposed to get ductwork cleaning. If I ever get the air ducts cleaned, the HVAC contractor damages them. The air ducts are apparently as fragile as eggs. The HVAC professional has damaged my air ducts on every duct cleaning appointment. I don’t notice right away though. I go months and months with high energy bills. I then call the HVAC repairman back and he does ductwork sealing. It is an expensive cycle of cleaning and patching ductwork. Central HVAC systems don’t work that well either. Yes, every room achieves heating and cooling with the ductwork. However, who wants every room in the house the same temperature? What about HVAC zone control? This is way better. Every space gets their own air handler and thermostat. The kitchen can have AC, the living room heating and the bedroom gets nothing. Everybody is in optimal comfort and the energy bills are way lower. In order to have HVAC zone control, my system needs to be ductless. I need to get the air ducts removed or sealed off. Then the central HVAC goes out the door in favor of a ductless mini split. It is expensive to change over. But, in the end, the energy bill savings will get that money back. Also, there will no longer be anymore fights on what the thermostat should read. We all will have our own thermostat.
