Yesterday, I had an appointment with an HVAC technician. I needed routine maintenance done on my heater. It was the middle of October and it was already starting to get pretty cold outside. I had cranked up my heating system prior to making the appointment. It did not sound very good. It also spewed a tremendous amount of dust once it turned on. I definitely knew that it needed a good deal of work. When the HVAC technician arrived he informed me that the unit was far dirtier that it should have been. I admitted that I had not scheduled routine maintenance the previous winter. He told me I should feel lucky at the furnace had lasted through the entire winter. It had now been two full years since my furnace had been properly serviced and it showed. The technician said that at least I was proactive by having this maintenance appointment scheduled in the fall instead of the middle of winter. I told him that the moment I turned on my furnace and heard it’s struggling and saw all the dust coming out of it, I knew that I needed a technician one way or another. The technician also replaced the air filter. He stressed to me the importance of doing this on my own as often as I could. Apparently, it would do a lot of good in keeping the system clean and functioning well. I guess that made a good bit of sense! For now on, I am going to be far more faithful when it comes to scheduling proper maintenance on my furnace.
