I love this heater

A good friend of mine is a major conspiracy nut. I mean I love the guy, but he thinks about the craziest scenarios. He’s forever paranoid about the government and all what they do secretly. He believes that we are always being spied on and listened to. He actually showed me an article the other day how someone had their “Alexa” device send a private conversation to someone else across the country. Now that really happened, and it made me a little nervous about what these smart devices could actually do. I actually have a smart thermostat which I can control via my other smart devices and especially my smart phone. It has gotten to the point in my house where my heating and cooling system basically runs on its own. There are only rare occasions when I might feel a little too hot or cold so I just tell my “Alexa” device to set the temperature control to a certain degree and it gets done. But my friend has me thinking sometimes, what if my HVAC system turns against us and decides to overheat the house or freeze us to death via the A/C? Now that seems really crazy, but after he was showing me how “Alexa” was disobeying commands and even laughing at people at times, it seemed like maybe this artificial intelligence could be getting out of control like those robot movies where the robots turn against humans. While I do feel like things like that are entirely unlikely, a small part of me thinks it could possibly happen. If this technology is able to truly think, what’s to stop it from eventually making its own decisions and choices? I have never had an issue with my smart thermostat or my “Alexa” device, but I am more careful about what I say around these devices now, as they could be recording what I say without my knowledge.
