Everyone has their own personal story of a “disaster date.” However, I truly think that mine takes the cake. This was my first date ever. I decided to take my date out on a saturday night to one of the most popular restaurants in town. I had to call five days in advance just to get two spots! The restaurant was a hibachi place. Our two seats were deluxe spots where they cook the food in front of you on a grill. My date had never been there, and was super excited. When we walked into the restaurant, I was hit with a wave of heat. They either had there heating furnaces at full blast, or their air conditioning system was malfunctioning. The heating only intensified when we got to our seats in front of the grill. This grill was so warm it was like a heating furnace. In hindsight, it was a bad idea to wear a dress shirt. I was sweating profusely. I was so hot I was too disoriented to ask my date if she was enjoying her food, or anything at all for that matter. Halfway into our meal, I had to excuse myself to go find a working air conditioning unit. I walked back to the kitchen area where they had the cooling unit at full power to keep all of the meat and vegetables fresh. I was glad the HVAC technician had done his job. After cooling off for a while I finally returned to my date at the table. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found. On the bright side, I had plenty of leftovers that night.
