The last thing I ever thought I would purchase in my entire lifetime, has become the appliance in our dwelling that I rely on the most. I live in the Northeast, where our winters are so insanely dry that your hands can legitimately crack open & bleed if you’re not cautious. Naturally, I have never been worried about having too much moisture in the air… All of that changed when I moved into a dwelling with terrible air quality. My little underground dwelling has a lot of troubles with the air, just a single one of them being the intense moisture. I’m grateful that it never gets too dry in Winter anymore, however without a central air conditioner appliance, the summer time humidity becomes a real problem. In the winter, the dampness creates this sort of chilly air that never entirely goes away… That’s why I solved the problem by picking up a dehumidifier, instead of a portable AC appliance. While even a small air conditioner appliance can take a lot of power to run–thus causing your utility bill to spike–a dehumidifier requires hardly any power at all. My dwelling has 2–one massive unit for the main living area, & a smaller unit for our bedroom. The sizable unit is a seasoned 70’s model that our property owner keeps up on his own. I simply change the air filter every month for it. The dehumidifier in our bedroom is a perfectly quiet model that I can use while I rest at night. The greater dehumidifier has its own humidistat built in, so it will shut off when the area reaches the reasonable level of dryness. With the excess moisture removed from our air, I am always warm in the Winter & totally cool in the summer.
