My mom is a pet groomer and he rents his shop from a local supplier owner. He used to use the building our mom rents as his place of supplier but as his supplier grew he needed a bigger space, so he built a current location and held onto the original building. He didn’t do much with the building our mom rents, he mostly used it for storage. He never did any of the much needed updates such a plumbing repairs, drafty windows, leaking roof, and even the oil furnace was neglected. After our mom started renting from him he started to pay for a lot of the repairs and updates that were needed. She replaced the interior of the building, he paid to have the plumbing repaired, and he covered the costs of having the roof repaired. However, when it came down to the oil furnace that was just not something he could afford to repair or update. She has asked the owner many times if they could share the costs and he down right refuses because he insists the oil furnace works great. His shop uses an old boiler system that was installed in the building in the 1950s. The owner of the building has not updated the system once, and he doesn’t even remember the last time he had the oil furnace tested! During the Winter when our is at the shop he mostly has to rely on area furnaces to keep the building warm. The gas furnace in the waiting room works rather well considering its age, however the furnaces in all the other rooms are dead. This makes for some honestly chilly task afternoons, so our mom had to purchase 9 odd portable area furnaces just to keep the building comfortable. I find that inexcusable.
