I almost blew my chance at an HVAC career

I used to be what is now called a “bro.” I wore my hat backwards and sat in the back of my pickup truck sipping beers.

It was a very party-heavy atmosphere back then, and from age 18 through about 22 or so I pretty much stayed drunk all the time.

This is not something I am proud of by any means, but it is the honest truth. I wasted a lot of time doing nothing, and gave up a lot of promising opportunities because at the time I didn’t care about the future. I was even offered a free one year scholarship to a local community college and their HVAC program. My uncle was an A/C guy going way back, and had arranged a few free classes for me to see if I would follow in his footsteps. I blew off the HVAC classes, was too busy having fun, and it is only now I am correcting that mistake and giving the classes a chance. My uncle is retired now, but he still knows a lot of different people in the local HVAC business he could connect me with. At least three people that he taught went on to own their own HVAC companies, so I know he can get me an interview. First I will have to prove to him that I am serious, which means acing these classes and getting my HVAC certification like he has always wanted. Of course passing the classes and getting through the HVAC certification process is going to take a lot of hard work and focus.
