Sometimes I sincerely wonder if I’m cursed, or if it’s merely coincidental that so many things go wrong around me.
For instance, when I walk into commercial retail stores and their entire electrical systems crash.
Or when I help a friend to purchase a new vehicle, which turns out to have more faulty systems and repeat repairs than it’s actually worth. As far fetched as I know it sounds, it feels like bad luck surrounds me and I can pass it along to others. This is exactly how I felt last month when I went to visit my good friends back home. We were staying at one of their houses, when suddenly the air felt extremely cold. He got up and checked the thermostat, finding that the temperature settings were normal for his place. Puzzled, we went to check out the furnace and found that it had basically exploded. He hadn’t been experiencing any trouble with it whatsoever, so it was very confusing to find that the heater had spontaneously stopped working. I immediately felt guilty, knowing that my misfortune had caused his HVAC failure. We worked together to find a local HVAC company with excellent reviews, and he called in the work order. After hours of waiting, however, the furnace technician had still not arrived. That’s when we called back again and found out that the heating specialist had been in an accident on the way over to see the failed furnace. Luckily he was going to be okay, but I felt awful that my bad luck struck again.
