Discomfort during pregnancy leads to installation of ductless mini split

I was very healthy and energetic during the first six months of my pregnancy.

  • I had no issue with morning sickness or weird cravings.

I had no discomfort until the outside weather suddenly warmed up. The heat and humidity was absolutely excruciating. I couldn’t sleep at night, was constantly sweaty and suffered from terrible migraines. Although we live in the northern part of the country, where the summer seasons are typically brief, I wanted to install central air conditioning. My husband suggested a smaller investment into a portable window air conditioner. I argued that this would allow me to be comfortable in only one room of the house. Plus, window air conditioners look ugly and are aggravating to install and remove with the change of seasons. I went ahead and called a professional HVAC contractor for help. Since our house is equipped with a boiler heating system, there is no easy way to upgrade to central cooling. We don’t have conventional ductwork and supply vents. The HVAC contractor recommended a ductless multi-split system. In this type of system, a single outdoor compressor links to multiple indoor air handlers that mount up high on the wall. Because each air handler includes its own thermostat, settings are able to be customized to the specific space. We only need to air condition the rooms we are currently using. Since the thermostats for the air handlers are linked to an app on my smartphone, operation is super easy and convenient. Plus, the ductless system is actually a heat pump and provides both heating and cooling capacity. It keeps me nice and cool in the summer and will help with heating in the winter. The system is wonderfully energy efficient, which also trims costs.
