I have a job at a mental health facility nearby. I must tell you, the other morning was one of the most terrible mornings I have had in a long while. One of the worst things happened to us: The HVAC system quit working! The HVAC company was called instantly, yet they couldn’t send an HVAC repairman out for more than two hours! This meant that my coworkers and I had to deal with the irritated patients in the facility. And as you might imagine, without the air conditioning functioning, the patients were getting rather out of control. The majority of them just wanted to get out of the facility. We, however, could not allow that to happen. We had to keep them confined even though the air conditioning had definitely quit working. We opened windows and we also had fans running. Even so, that was not nearly enough to appease this group of patients, who went nuts eventually. They broke things around the facility and started coming after the staff members. In fact, several of the patients actually pulled me over to the laundry chute addition to threw me into it! Down the laundry chute I went, but I got stuck toward the bottom of the chute. I could have been seriously hurt! In any case, being stuck wasn’t fun at all. I screamed for help until finally some of the staff members found me and pulled me out. Honestly, it was quite a relief when the HVAC repairman finally showed up and was able to repair the air conditioning system. That’s when the patients got their meds and finally calmed down in the nice cool air conditioning! It sure was a rough morning for me. My manager asked if I wanted to head home after going through that experience. But I am a strong guy and I decided to finish my shift.
