My husband and I both work long days at very demanding jobs. We have an army of kids between the two of us who are all involved in so many different sports and extracurricular activities; we also have several pets to take care of. We are not home very often and spend most of our time traveling in the car so trying to keep up with household chores is very difficult for us; there are always piles of laundry, no groceries and weeds taking over the garden. Neither of us have the time to deal with extra problems or have extra money to spend. Since this is the case, we are enrolled in a repair program with a local contracting company – twice a year, they send a team of professionals who inspect and fix what needs fixing for the plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical systems. They check and update the safety and reliability of the heating system, air conditioner, water heater, sump pump and all of our major appliances. These proactive measures help to prevent malfunction, energy waste, property disfigure, and disruption. The last time the heating and air conditioning professional tested the heating/cooling unit, he suggested that the two of us upgrade to a smart thermostat. While this required an initial good chunk of money, it’s been totally worth it. Since the two of us are mainly away from home, having remote access to the thermostat is so cost effective for us. Both of us can make adjustments to temperature from our smartphones. If our schedule unexpectedly changes, it’s easy to turn the thermostat up or down to conserve energy and make sure we come back to a comfortable home. The wireless thermostat has simplified our lives and saved us money.
