My best friend lives next door to me, so I try to get over to talk to him every so often.
When he was hospitalized and ended up with surgery, I went over to see if he needed any help.
He told me he was just tired of being in the house, but he couldn’t handle the heat of the sun. His wife wasn’t happy about lowering the thermostat so the air conditioning could run a bit cooler, but when he asked me to lower the thermostat, I did it for him. He showed me the chain she had got for him and I had to laugh. She bought him a small personal fan that was attached to a chain he could wear around his neck. He didn’t find it amusing. Then his wife came in and asked me to help her out. She had an industrial fan out in the garage and she wanted me to help her bring it in so she could wash it and put it in the room. My friend told me I had no idea how loud the fan was and it would drown out even someone talking to him. He was not happy and he asked me not to help her. I didn’t know what to say, except to get up and turn the thermostat down to sixty-eight. I told him he better enjoy the air conditioning while he could because it didn’t look like it was going to last much longer. Maybe I can convince her that using the air conditioning would be much cheaper than using the old fan;
