When our contractor started talking about BAS or Building Automation Systems, for our home, I was so lost. My husband is an electronics engineer and he knew exactly what he was talking about. I felt like I was in a room full of alternative language speakers. I was in a whole new world. I had to go online and look up the term and find the layman terms for what they were discussing. All I knew was that I was going to have a fully automated HVAC system in my home. I had thought that was what the thermostat was for. After reading about the Building Automation System, I was surprised to find that the thermostat was actually a part of the system. The HVAC Control System is meant to control the humidity and ventilation system, along with controlling the temperature of the room. For the home, the HVAC Control System can also include a generator system that will turn on in the event of a loss of power. The Building Automation System would also control a security system for the home. I couldn’t believe what all the BAS would be able to provide for us. With the advent of the loss of power, which would stop the power going to all of our systems, the generator would be set to automatically turn on. With the generator, our system would not shut down, but only be operating on a limited system. I guess my husband and the contractor knew what they were talking about when they made the plans for the BAS in our home.
